The conference's primary sponsor is the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research.

Financial support is being used to (i) plan, organize and promote the meeting, (ii) ensure the participation of renowned keynote speakers, (iii) facilitate student participation (by reducing their registration fees, accommodation costs and travel), (iv) publish a conference proceedings book, which will be published as an open access document and distributed free of charge to all delegates and other interested parties, (v) keep the registration fee and hotel accommodation at a reasonable level, and (vi) fund social events. Other running costs for the conference will be raised through the registration fee.
